![]() ![]() ![]() This team of composer and librettists collaborated on three excellent works which represent the peak of achievement of Italian opera around the beginning of the last century. The three-act opera is based on the stage play "TOSCA" of Sardou (five-act), with music composed by Giacomo Puccini and libretto written by Illica and Giacosa. It is interesting to note that the historical events which formed the background of the story took place in Rome exactly two centuries ago in 1800. The presentation of opera "TOSCA" in 2000 by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department is in perfect timing when Giacomo Puccini's "TOSCA"'s first performances was staged in Rome a century ago in 1900.
